 Matt Alexander 

Co-founder and co-owner of Blackhawks FC. Coach Matt's main profession is a civil engineer. Matt has been married for 20+ years and has 3 sons - all who love soccer and other sports. He started the club because of them. Coach Matt played club soccer growing up and made the Varsity team in high school as a Freshman. He has been coaching youth soccer since 2004 and retains a USSF "D" coaching license. In 2010, he established Blackhawks FC and has coached more than 700 academy and competitive games. He currently coaches boys and girls teams. He teaches a possession style of play and focuses on teaching his players the fundamentals of soccer; he believes the team that is the most fundamentally sound usually wins. He also believes that sports and the game of soccer teach so many life lessons: winning, losing, perseverance, respect, discipline, hard work, determination, love and teamwork. His teams have been league, division and tournament champions. His team moto is simple: Train Hard, Play Hard, Pursue the Crown!

 

 John Cope

Co-founder and co-owner of Blackhawks FC. Coach John is originally from Florida, but lived abroad during his younger years. He has worked, played and coached soccer for over 30 years. He spent time with the US Soccer's National Teams Program and was part of the inaugural year of Major League Soccer. He also worked for the Women's United Soccer Association's Atlanta Beat franchise. He played with the North Texas Men's Premier League, Atlanta Men's Premier League, and the Florida Men's State Select Team over the past 20 years. He resides in McKinney with his wife and son. He has a grown daughter and is a proud grandfather.

 

 Luis Zavala

Luis joined the Blackhawks coaching staff in Fall 2014. He was born in Paramount CA, grew up in Orange County, CA and has lived in Mckinney, TX since 2008. He played Semi-Pro for West Michagan Edge in Grand Rapids, MI. He had soccer stints in both Guanajuato, Mexico and San Jose, Costa Rica. He played Division I Soccer @ CSUF 98-00 & Division II Soccer @ CSULA 96-98. He played Youth Club Soccer with California Flyers. His Youth Soccer accomplishments include 1995 U17 US National Champion, Back to Back 1994 & 1995 Dr Pepper Dallas Cup Champion. He played right midfielder. Luis started playing soccer at the age of 3 and never played any other sport. Luis has been coaching for 8 years now. Much of his coaching philosophy stems from the creativity and ball skills of Brazilian Soccer. At a very young age he was exposed to Brazilian style of soccer when he was coached by Rildo Menezes. Rildo, a native Brazilian, played most of his career in Brazil with Santos, F.C. His teachings emphasize fudamentals, technique and composure on the ball. Luis thrives on helping players improve in all facits of the game. He is a passionate coach who continues to evolve with the sport through coaching education and experiences. The Zavala soccer family consists of his lovely wife and his two sons.

 

 Steve Ellis

Part-time Assistant Coach. He was born in Alabama but lived all over the United states, but lived in the Seattle are for 10 years before moving to Texas in 2010. Growing up he was a baseball (catcher) and basketball player (point guard). While living in the Seattle area, he was the president of a soccer league with 2000 members, which included 100+ competitive club soccer teams. I have a lovely wife and children who are all soccer players. His words of wisdom to live by are :"The more I practice, the luckier I seem to get." Steve has his U10 Coaching certificate, his E license and State D license.
